The myth begins with the terrifying monster Typhon, a fire-breathing giant, attacking the gods of Olympus. As chaos erupted, the goddess Aphrodite and her son Eros (Venus and Cupid in Roman lore) fled to the banks of the great river Euphrates.

With Typhon's approach shaking the earth, they were trapped. To escape, they transformed themselves into fish, plunging into the life-giving waters. Some versions say two friendly fish came to their aid, offering them safe passage.

To ensure they would not be separated in the turbulent currents, Aphrodite and Eros tied themselves together with a long, silver cord. This sacred bond symbolizes the unbreakable connection between love (Aphrodite) and desire (Eros), as well as the deep, psychic link that defines the Piscean spirit.

In gratitude for their salvation, the gods placed the images of the two fish among the stars, forever immortalizing their leap of faith and instinct for survival.
