Virgo
The Maiden in Greek Mythology
Origin & Mythology
In Greek mythology, Virgo is most commonly associated with Astraea, the goddess of innocence and purity. She was the last of the immortals to live among humans during the Golden Age. As humanity grew wicked, she ascended to the heavens and became the constellation Virgo, holding the scales of justice (the neighboring constellation Libra).
Other associations include Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, and her daughter Persephone, linking Virgo to themes of fertility, seasons, and the earth.
