The Story of Capricorn
The Sea-Goat | December 22 - January 19
Mythological Origins
Capricorn is linked to the ancient figure of Pricus, a sea-goat created by the god Cronus (Saturn). Pricus was immortal and could speak, living in the ocean and fathering many sea-goat children. Unlike their wise father, the young sea-goats were drawn to the shore. As they left the water and walked on land, they lost their tails, fins, and ability to speak, becoming ordinary goats.
Heartbroken by his children's transformation, Pricus used his power to reverse time, trying to keep them in the sea. However, their nature to explore the land was unstoppable. In his loneliness, Pricus asked Cronus to let him die. Instead, Cronus honored his loyalty and wisdom by placing him in the sky as the constellation Capricornus, where he could watch over his children for eternity.
