A Clarification of Terms

The title "Cancer" refers to a sign in Western astrology (represented by the crab). However, the Chinese Zodiac (Shengxiao) operates on a completely different system. There is no direct equivalent sign called "Cancer" in the traditional 12-year animal cycle.

In Chinese astrology, your sign is determined by your lunar birth year, not by a month like in Western astrology. The twelve animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

If You're a Cancer (Western Sign)...

If you identify with the Western zodiac sign of Cancer (born approximately June 21 - July 22), you have a corresponding Chinese Zodiac animal based on the year you were born. For example, you could be a Dragon, a Snake, or any other animal.

Your complete astrological profile in Chinese culture would then be a blend of your Chinese Zodiac animal's traits and the influences of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) and your Heavenly Stem.

Cancerian Traits in a Chinese Zodiac Context

While not a direct match, the emotional, nurturing, and protective qualities associated with the Western Cancer sign can be compared to traits found in certain Chinese Zodiac signs:

The Rabbit (卯) shares Cancer's love for home, family, sensitivity, and diplomacy.
The Goat (羊) resonates with Cancer's artistic, compassionate, and nurturing nature.
The Ox (牛) reflects Cancer's dedication to family and providing stability.
