Capricorn: The Sea-Goat
A Myth of Ambition and Duality
The Mythological Origin
In the rich tapestry of Greek mythology, the constellation Capricorn is most commonly associated with the figure of Pan, the god of the wild, shepherds, and flocks.
During the great war between the gods and the monstrous Typhon, the gods fled to Egypt and transformed into animals to hide. Pan, in his moment of panic, leaped into the Nile River. The part of him submerged in water began to transform into a fish, while his upper body took the form of a goat. This created the hybrid creature known as the Sea-Goat.
Zeus, impressed by this clever form, later placed the image among the stars, immortalizing Capricorn as a symbol of resourcefulness, survival, and the bridge between earth and sea—the material and the emotional worlds.
